The largest maths class at multiple venues involved 4,076 students at 30 schools across the UK on 3 December 2010. All classes followed the same lesson plan and ran from 11-11:30 a.m.
The largest matchstick model ‘Catherdrals of the Sea’ consists of 4.075 million matchsticks and depicts a North Sea oil production platform. It was made by David Reynolds (UK) and was completed in July 2009. It has taken over 15 years for its construction, the model is currently on public display at The Bursledon Brickwork and Industrial Museum, Swanwick, Southampton.
The annual Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, UK, is the world’s largest military air show in terms of participating aircraft. An average of 350 static and flying aircraft attend each year, with a record total of 535 aircraft at the 2003 show. Attendance is around 150,000 anually.
The largest model railway engine is the Thomas the Tank Engine character ‘James’, which is 264.3 cm high, 149.6 cm wide, 652 cm long (104.05 x 58.59 x 256.69 in) and weighs nearly 1.5 tons (236.2 st). The model was built by BBC Visual Effects (UK) for a Thomas the Tank Engine tour in 2003. The largest musical act to release an album (signed) is Rock Choir, consisting of 4386 singers, and was signed to Decca, part of the Universal Music Group, on 23 October 2009. Rock choir is a pop, gospel and Motown choir. The largest ocarina ensemble involved 3,081 participants and was achieved by David Liggins, Ocarina Workshop and The Schools Music Association of Great Britain (all UK) in the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK on 5 November 2013. The attempt was part of the Barnardo’s Young Supporters concert. The numbers were made up of children and teachers from over 60 primary schools in the UK, Jersey and Gibraltar, and their families and friends. The record for the largest parade of Lotus cars is 436 and was organized by Lotus Cars Motorsport Vision and Lipscomb Lotus (all UK) and was set at the Snetterton Race Circuit in Norfolk, UK, on 14 June 2009. The cars completed 3 laps on the track which is 3.1232 km (1.952 miles) long.
The largest parade of Land Rover cars featured 348 vehicles and was achieved by Convoy for Heroes at the Jaguar Land Rover Proving Ground, Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK, on 24 April 2011. The route used on the track is known internally as the ‘Emissions’ circuit and is 6.075 km (3.73 miles) long. The parade featured two ‘Pink Panther’ Land Rovers, as used by the British SAS in desert reconnaisance missions, which weigh an impressive 3.5 tonnes (7,700 lb).
The largest parade of Jaguar cars is 767, and was organised by Silverstone Classic, Towcester, Northamptonshire (UK), on 23 July 2011. The parade of E-Type Jaguar cars was held in celebration of the car’s 50th anniversary. Cars were privately owned with many travelling from throughout Europe and North America to the Silverstone circuit.
