The longest videogames marathon playing a fighting game lasted 48 hours exactly and was achieved by Anthony ‘AJ’ Lysiak (USA), who played Street Fighter X Tekken (Capcom, 2012) at Game Emporium in Garrettsville, Ohio, USA, from 4-6 May 2012. The Game Emporium arcade where the attempt took place is a small local business that ran two consecutive lock-in events to support AJ’s attempt.
The longest videogame marathon playing a dance/rhythm game lasted 24 hr 2 min 44 sec and was achieved by Carrie Swidecki (USA), who played Dance Central 2 (Harmonix, 2011) at Otto’s Video Games and More in Bakersfield, California, USA, from 16-17 June 2012. This is Carrie’s second successful Guinness World Records attempt: she reclaimed her title by playing a motion-sensing dance game but previously held the record by playing a non motion-sensing dancing game.

The longest marathon playing an action-adventure videogame lasted 109 hours exactly and was achieved by Tony Desmet, Jesse Rebmann and Jeffrey Gamon (all Belgium) who played Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft, 2010), at the GUNKtv World Record Gaming Event in Antwerp, Belgium, from 18 to 22 December 2010. The record attempt started with 20 participants. The three record holders were the only ones who were able to survive to the end.
The longest video games marathon playing a survival horror game was achieved by Tim Turi (USA) who played the Resident Evil series for 27 hours 8 minutes in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, from 6-7 August 2011. The attempt started at 9:02 am on 6 August and ended 12.10 pm on 7 August. Tim Turi is an Associate Editor at Game Informer and the attempt took place in Game Informer’s offices.
