The youngest football referee (female) was Daisy Goldsmith (UK) who received her level nine qualifications from The Football Association on her 14th birthday, in Puriton, UK, on 10 March 2010. Goldsmith joined a reported rank of 25,502 qualified referees in the nation at the time of her appointment, only 407 of whom were female. In her first match as a qualified FA referee, Goldsmith called a penalty against her the team from her own school, Chilton Trinity.

On 4 September 1999, 18-year old Luigi Sannino (Italy) became the youngest ever astronomer to discover an asteroid. Using telescopes at Monte Viseggi Observatory, La Spezia, Italy, the young Sannino and observing colleague P. Pietrapiana tracked the course of the asteroid now named 12575 Palmaria (1999 RH1) by the International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Centre. At 19 years 297 days Sidney Crosby (Canada, b. 7 August 1987) of the Pittsburgh Penguins (USA) became the youngest player in NHL history to be named team captain. Vincent Lecavalier (Canada) was 27 days older when the Tampa Bay Lightning (USA) appointed him captain for the 2000-01 season.
