Largest parade of floats

The largest parade of floats consisted of 343 floats at the “Corso do Zé Pereira” in Teresina, Brazil, on 11 February 2012. Held since 1940, the annual parade is a “pre-Carnaval” party offered free of charge by the city of Teresina. The 2012 edition featured an estimated 40,000 in attendance to take part in and witness the record-breaking parade, which lasted for more than 6.5 hours. The parade route ran for 7.3 km (4.54 mi) with float themes including disco, Disney World, and John Lennon.

Largest punch bag

The largest punch bag measures 6.97 m (22 ft 10 in) tall and 98 cm (3 ft 2 in) wide. The foam filled bag weighs 800 kg (1,763.7 lbs) and was made by Helio Dipp Jr. and Cintia Schmitt (both Brazil). It was presented and measured in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on 28 March 2009. Largest raindrops

The largest raindrops ever directly recorded measure a minimum of 8.6 mm (0.338 in) across. They have been detected on two occasions; September 1995 (Brazil) and July 1999 (Marshall Islands). The raindrops were imaged while falling by a laser instrument on board a research aircraft in studies by Professor Peter V. Hobbs and Arthur Rango (both USA), University of Washington (USA). Their results were published in Geophysical Research Letters on 13/07/2004.

Largest samba band

The largest samba band consisted of 1,038 participants at the Cultural Turn organised by Leandro Lehart and the Municipal Secretary of Culture of Sao Paulo (both Brazil) in Republic Square in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on 17 April 2011. Participants were pulled from 22 different schools.

Largest seed mosaic

The largest seed mosaic measured 220 m² (2,368.06 ft²) and was created by employees of Monsanto, at Club Med, Angra dos Reis, Brazil, on 30 November 2011. Just over 200 employees took part in creating the mosaic that represented Dekalb one of their brands of corn, it took under 2 hours. Largest self-defence class

The largest self defence class involved 2,212 participants and was a Krav Maga lesson organized by the South American Krav Maga Federation at Copacabana beach, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 29 May 2010. The lesson was directed by Master Kobi Lichtenstein (Israel) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Imi Lichtenfeld, the creator of Krav Maga, and the 20th anniversary of the presence of Krav Maga in Brazil. Participants from 27 countries took part at the class.

Largest skin cancer screening (multiple location)

The largest simultaneous skin cancer screening involved 34,435 participants at 170 different locations across Brazil, for an event organised by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology for the Skin Cancer Prevention National Campaign, on 5 December, 2009. This was the 11th year of the campaign and it has been seen to grown every year.

Longest career as a theatre producer for the same production

The longest career as a theatre producer of the same production is 40 years 7 months and was achieved by Vado Souza (Brazil) in his one-man show “O Navio Negreiro” from 23 October 1971 to May 2012. A certificate was presented to Vado after a special performance at Churrascaria Vento Haragano, São Paulo, Brasil, on 17 May 2012. Longest career as an actress

The longest career as an actress is 86 years and was achieved by Dercy Goncalves (Brazil, b. 26 June 1907) who ran away from home and joined a travelling theatre in 1922 and acted on stage, in television and film until 2008 when she starred in the film Nossa vida nao cabe num opala at the age of 101. Dercy Goncalves sadly died on 19 July 2008, the much-celebrated actress was commemorated by a host of Brazilians including current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Continue reading →
