In five minutes, 224 participants tied 8,841 reef knots resulting in a chain measuring 7,848 m (25,748 ft) long for an event organised by Agrupamento 626 – Corpo Nacional de Escutas (Portugal) at the National Stadium, Linda-a-Velha, Portugal on 14 April 2007.

Dhanapalan in Chennai, India, on 14 December 2013. The longest chain of plastic bottles measures 5,400 m (17,716 ft 6 in) and was achieved by 60 volunteers in 4 hours.

The longest chain of people licking ice cream was achieved by 2,728 participants at an event organised by Morelli’s of Portstewart Ltd. (UK) in Portstewart, Northern Ireland, UK, on 23 July 2011. The event took place as part of a promotional campaign advertising Morelli’s ice cream.

The longest chain of helmets consisted of 18,000 safety helmets, measured 5,664 m (18,582 ft) and was created by Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Singapore) at Siloso Beach, Sentosa Island, Singapore on 21 October 2007.

Longest chain of glowsticks

The longest chain of glowsticks consists of 4,500 glowsticks and is 802.40 m (2,632 ft 6 in) long. It was created by members of the Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit (UK) in Culzean Castle & Country Park, Maybole, UK, on 24 September 2011. The record is measured by the number of glowsticks in the chain. Therefore, they beat the previous record even though the old record chain was longer.

The longest chalk pavement art was 5,600 m (18,372 ft 8 in) long and 2 m (6 ft 6 in) wide and was achieved by over 5,000 students from Jena in Jena, Germany, on 5 June 2009. The chalk pavement art was drawn on Stadtrodaer Street, where traffic was diverted on this day. The street was divided in 2m x 2m squares which then were filled with chalk drawings by the children. The longest chain of skiers consisted of 60 participants skiing down a slope in an event organized by Chill Factore (UK) at the Trafford Quays Leisure Village in Manchester, UK, 9 November 2011. The participants held each other’s hand and went down the slope linked like that.

Longest chain of shoes

The longest chain of shoes consisted of 24,962 shoes and was achieved by The Shoeman Water Projects at Stankowski Field at the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA on 7 May 2011. All the shoes were tied up in pairs and were placed heal-to-toe, spelling the word ‘Water’.

The longest chain of scarves/neckerchiefs was 6,552 m 60 cm (21,498 ft), was made using 6,500 scarves, and was achieved by 194 Campaign in Beirut, Lebanon, on 15 May 2010. The scarves used were traditional Palestinian scarves called ‘Kofeyeh’, made famous by Yasser Arafat, and they were arranged into the numbers 194, the UN resolution known as ‘Right of Return’.
